Dexter Article Reading Response

Dexter Article Reading Response:
It is very clear that technology can influence student learning. It can bring learning to another level. It's more than just putting a video tape and having the student watch. It's about providing students with another way to look at/complete the lesson given. The article by Sara Dexter, allows the reader to see how technology can be positively implemented within the academic setting.
In the article, Dexter discusses two dimension principles that technology can be integrated in(the classroom and school wide setting). It's important to not only implement technology within one's classroom, but also within one's school. As a teacher, we are mainly focused on "our classroom" and "our students". However, teachers need to look at the bigger picture, which in this case is the school, other staff members and students. Teachers need to realize that whatever technology they may be implementing within the classroom effects the school, and vice versa.
One main thing that I got out of "Classroom Level Principles", was that technology has an "added value" on learning. I believe that when used properly, technology can only add/enhance learning. Technology within the classroom is a way for the students to access and gain knowledge on subject matter that is taught in the classroom. Technology is just another source of information for both teachers and students. It is another tool that teachers can take out their tool belt to make student learning more beneficial and effective. However, with that being said, technology should not just implemented into a lesson just because.
The topic on school level principles, mainly focused on looking at the implementation and effectiveness technology has on the whole school Technology is not only effective for student's learning, but also for teachers as well. Teaching teachers how to utilize technology is just as critical as teaching students. How will we expect students to learn if the teachers aren't receiving the proper training for technology integration? I believe that teachers having the support and access is just as important (if not more) as using technology within the classroom.
